Bynum-Garig Scholarship Fund
The scholarship fund was kicked off at the reunion on Friday night. We
raised $124.00 in our first fund-raising effort ($119.50 with the 50/50 raffle +
$4.50 in donations). Scholarship committee members will be announced soon,
so put on your thinking caps and help suggest ways we can increase the fund to
help our students. You are encouraged to volunteer your time for this
committee.

EDNA BYNUM, known to all as “Edno,” was the first born to the union of Charles and
Mary Garig Bynum of Brusly, Louisiana. She was born August 28, 1910 in the little town of Brusly, which is in West Baton Rouge Parish (County) just
7 miles from our state capital, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which is in East Baton Rouge Parish (County).
She met the "Love of Her Life," as she often said, Mr. Ernest Spriggs, this good looking, handsome young man from Paul Lane. He was the son
of Octave and Bertha Schofield Spriggs. He had 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
The rest of the story. . .They were the parents of ten children, Bertha, Erma, Ernest, Jr., Otis, Eddie, Lawrence, Charley, Odessa, Henry and Brenda. there are
only four of us left now. The four remaining are Erma, Ernest, Jr., Odessa and Henry.
Our mother was a caring and loving mother. she was a good cook and loved to cook. She could take anything and make it taste delicious. She could make the best
sweet potato pies and coconut cakes. She always prepared good, tasty meals for her family; and anybody who came by, she wanted them to eat too.
She not only cared for her children physically, but also spiritually. She carried her children to church every Sunday and went to Sunday School as well.
All of her kids were believers in Jesus Christ and were baptized as members of Antioch Baptist Church. Our father was a
Christian man and belonged to Antioch Baptist Church
where he served as an usher.
Due to illness on July 20, 1973, this beautiful life came to an end as she peacefully slept away. We miss her and love her dearly and will always love her. She lives on in our hearts forever.
